Recently, was one of six Kendal of Granville employees honored by LeadingAge Ohio with the employee Stars Award, given in recognition of those who regularly go “above and beyond” the call of duty in the course of their normal work day.
Bill always wanted to be a cook, a passion that began after his mother’s death when he was just 13. He has been with Kendal at Granville for 10 years now, but he came with plenty of experience. Before moving to Ohio in 2008, Bill had served as a Sous Chef for a swanky golf resort in Arizona. According to his supervisor Robert Olinger, “Bill is very creative and quite knowledgeable in the food industry. He is dedicated to his job, has a great sense of humor and is a team player whom the residents absolutely adore.”
Bill shares his home with a cat named Fluttershy. In addition to food, Bill’s greatest love is for his 7-year-old daughter, Amberlyn, who just completed kindergarden. Together, they enjoy swimming in the Kendal pool, and participating in the many family-centered special events held on our campus. They also can be found on a playground, or fishing, camping and playing cards.
When Kendal at Granville serves lunch at the Salvation Army in Newark, you can count on Bill to be there, helping out … another sign of the big heart in the quiet guy who seemingly prefers to work behind the scenes.
“When I saw the ad online for this position, I thought I’d give it a try as something new and different,” Bill said. “It has been fun getting to know the residents and their food preferences. Ten years later, I still love it here!”
And clearly, the feeling is mutual, as Bill can now boast he is one of Kendal’s STARS, nominated by residents and honored by our state organization for excellence in Service, Teamwork, Attitude, Respect and Safety.
