Upon first meeting Russ Harris and Karen Greenwaldt, you might immediately notice their delightful Southern accents. They now call Kendal at Granville home, but they recently moved to Kendal from North Carolina along with their beautiful rescue dog, Maggie. What you wouldn’t automatically guess about Russ and Karen are their amazing abilities to create pottery and art from different fibers.
Both Russ and Karen are very nonchalant about their different talents, but seeing them firsthand, their modesty is immediately apparent. Karen takes different types of material, including felt to create whimsical dolls. Each of the dolls has their own back story, which are just as entertaining as the dolls themselves. Her ability to use household items in the doll’s creation, is truly something to see and admire. She also creates art through needle felting. At first glance, they appear to be paintings, but up close, the artistry and detail in the pieces are undeniable.

Karen's felt Work
Russ has over thirty thousand pieces of pottery to his credit and speaking to him about it reveals his passion for his love of creating the pieces. He has acquired beautiful sets of pottery from the early nineteenth century, mostly from the Ohio area. Between his collected sets, and his personal pieces, it is a feast for the senses. A personal favorite is his Noah’s Ark, which showcases his attention to detail.

Kendal is very lucky to welcome Russ and Karen and their creativity and talent to our community. It is highly recommended to see their work in person, so if you get a chance, stop by and see them.
