Healthcare Matters!

However, the chronological age of 65 can present very differently from one individual to another due to differences in their physical, mental and social conditions.

Health and well-being are often taken for granted in youth but become increasingly more of a priority for older adults. Seniors who are looking at retirement communities often place a high value on both the quality and quantity of health care options nearby.

Close By to Quality Healthcare Providers

Kendal at Granville (KAG) is fortunate to live in an area of abundant choices between highly regarded healthcare providers.  Right away, Kendal at Granville has an advantage over many other communities because Central Ohio Geriatrics (COG), the largest private medical practice of its kind in central Ohio, has an office on site!  Dr. John Weigand, who serves as Medical Director for our community, founded this practice on three principles: personal, patient and professional.  COG specializes in senior care across the spectrum of independent living, assisted living, post-acute rehabilitation and long-term residential care, as well as hospice.  When new residents move into KAG, they have a choice of transferring to have COG listed as their primary care physician.

Other than routine healthcare, we must be prepared for sudden illness or emergencies.  There are three Urgent Care facilities nearby, including one in Granville and two in Newark. Within 6 miles of Kendal at Granville is the local community hospital, Licking Memorial Hospital, which is convenient for most medical emergencies.  This general medical/surgical facility is a not-for-profit organization that includes a multi-specialty physician group as well as a charitable Foundation.

Another multi-site healthcare system is Mount Carmel Health, a member of Trinity Health, which is one of the largest integrated health systems in the community. Dedicated to providing patient-centered care, Mt. Caramel operates four local hospitals, outpatient facilities, surgery centers, primary and specialty care physician offices and more, conveniently located throughout the region.

The top-rated hospital in Columbus, OSU Wexner Medical Center, is only 35 miles away.  Also, two wonderful specialty hospitals are under 45 minutes’ drive:  Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the world-class James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Of course, it is good to be prepared and know your local healthcare options.  Yet at our Life Plan community, we provide an atmosphere that promotes health and wellness.  When necessary, residents can take advantage of our Assisted Living (including memory support programs), the Rehabilitation Center (for inpatient and outpatient care) and Skilled Nursing all on the Kendal at Granville site, for short or long-term stays.

And the best news of all is that new research is demonstrating that those living in Life Plan Communities are living longer, happier, and healthier lives…so you probably won’t need those services very often!
